Summer Learning Journey activity 2

Namaste bloggers,
It's time for another Summer Learning Journey activity hope you enjoy.

Discovering Aotearoa

Who discovered Aotearoa?

Well Captain James Cook sighted New Zealand on 6th October 1769 and landed at Poverty bay two days later. He drew a detailed and accurate maps of the country and wrote about the Moari people.

However many people believe that Kupe was the first person to step foot in Aotearoa. Some people think that the name of Aotearoa came from Kupe's wife (in some versions, his daughter)  was watching  the horizon and called "He ao! He also navigated from Hawaiki to Aotearoa useing the stars, sun and ocean swells.

  1. Bula vi Naka Miraj,

Kueni here again from the Summer Learning Journey. I hope you are having a fantastic Friday, what have you been doing today?

Thank you so much for sharing about who you are, where your from and a little bit about your family. I really enjoyed learning a little bit more about you in this blog post today.

I like that you have also spoken about some things that are important to you and your family, that is so special. Fiji is so beautiful, I would love to travel there one day. Have you and/ or your family been to Fiji before?

Please remember that when you use photos from online that you need to attribute these. This just means, to copy the link of the page and paste it on your blog post. Alternatively you can use google drawings to make your own pictures or hand draw pictures and add them to your blog post.

    Blog ya later,
    Kueni.

  2. Namaste Miraj, how is your day going so far? I hope you are enjoying the sunshine :)

Thank you for sharing some information about your culture. I really enjoyed reading about where you and your family come from, and what languages you speak. I have never visited Fiji before but I would like to someday. Have you lived in Fiji before or were you born here in New Zealand? Do you visit Fiji much?

I would love to know more about what it means to you to be Fijian? Does your family have any Fijian traditions besides praying? What is your favourite Fijian meal that is cooked in your household?

I’ve noticed that you haven’t been active in a while, and we really enjoyed reading your posts when you were active. I thought I would just jump on your blog and give you a gentle reminder that the Summer Learning Journey finishes next Friday (24th January) so you have until then to do as many activities as you can. Remember that the more activities you do, the more points you gain and the higher the chance of you winning some really cool prizes!

Happy blogging, I look forward to reading more of your posts :)
    Eliza.
