ASB Waterfront Theatre/ Genesis program and The Spark 5G Race Zone trip

 Namaste Bloggers

Last week the year 5 and 6's had one of the most exciting experiences ever. We went to the Waterfront Theatre, where the kind Genesis people showed us how to use a Sphero ( bolt ) robot ( but I already knew how to use it.) They taught us  how to aim the Sphero, change the colour ( on the top ) and they taught us how to race them around the America's Cup course ( Mohit, and I won one ).

Then we had Morning Tea, after we did that my group went to the 5G Race Zone. First we went to the wind room. It told us where the air current was coming from and how hard it was blowing. When we got to the next room and we got to do a simulation of the Te Kahu ( the ship New Zealand's going to use in the 2021 Americas Cup ). Then we watched a movie about the Te Kahu, explaining why we should win the cup again. After that we got to build our own version of the Te Kahu, we were scored out of one hundred.

This is someone in the schools boat I couldn't find mine ( mine was the highest score in my group mine was 90)

My favorite part of today was making my own version of the Te Kahu.

These are some photos that we tookYour PhotoYour PhotoYour PhotoYour Photo

The 5G Race Zone is open to the public it is free but you're only allowed in there for an hour. Thank you for reading my blog post if you went there you can tell me what you did in the comment section below.

Reading test results

 Namaste bloggers

Today I will be telling you my reading test result. I'm the best reader in the class but the person who was on the same reading age as me hasn't been tested yet. My reading age is 13 years, That's 3 year's above my age. That story that I read was about Homing pigeons. Homing pigeons have two ways of navigating to get to the nests, one of the ways is going around roundabout's following highways and even more ( man made object ), the second way they get around is by using a Iron based crystal called Magnetite in their heads which somehow allow's them to connect with the magnetic field to find their way to their nests.

Thank you fro reading my blog post if you know anything else about homing pigeons then you can tell me in the comments. Bye

Museum Trip

 Namaste Bloggers

Today I will be telling you about me and my classes trip to The Auckland War Memorial Museum. At 10:00 am we saw the buses arrive. On the way to the museum some of the students in our class started to sing weird songs ( that really annoyed me ). When we got to the museum we were separated into groups of 6-7 people and an adult. My favorite part of the museum was the volcano room. One of the things that I learnt, was that in the war they had grenade crossbows ( and yes I'm not joking! ). One question that I had was why they had such a tiny Egyptian exhibition. After lunch, we walked down to the winter gardens.

This is a image of us there.

Overall, this was an amazing experience. You can share you experience in the comments. Bye.

Beeswax Wraps

Namaste Bloggers

My class is learning why we should stop using single use plastic, we should stop using single use plastic because it is harming our environment. We made beeswax wraps because it is one of the only ways to reduce single use plastic. Here are some instructions of how to make some beeswax wraps.

How to make Beeswax wraps

What you’ll need
  • 100% cotton fabric
  • Pinking shears
  • Beeswax pellets
  • Baking paper
  • Iron
  • Old towel
  • Cardboard (optional)

Method
  1. Choose a fabric that is 100% cotton.
  2. Cut the 100% cotton fabric with your pinking shears, and measure it so it is 30cm by 30cm.
  3. Place the cardboard,on the table then lay down an old cloth then continue with the steps  (cardboard is optional).
  4. Lay down your 100% cotton fabric on your baking paper.
  5. Sprinkle a handful of your beeswax pellets on your fabric and make sure you do this evenly throughout the whole fabric.
  6. Put another piece of baking paper on top of the fabric.
  7. Grab your iron (call an adult if you are a kid or if you need to) slowly go over your fabric and make sure that all the beeswax is  melted.
  8. Peel off your fabric from the baking paper (be careful) and shake it gently until it has cooled down, now you have a beeswax wrap.

Here is a photo of me with my beeswax wrap

Thank you for reading my blog post if you have made a beeswax cloth with these instructions then you can show them to me in the comment section.

Why we should stop using plastic bags

Namaste Bloggers

Today I will be telling you why you shouldn't use plastic bags. One of the reasons is that if we keep using them then eventually all the sea creatures will die. I did an info graphic with my friend and class mate Teva this is the info graphic.

Thank you for reading my blog post if you have any more reasons you can tell me them in the comment section.
